Lagos Space Programme is a multidisciplinary fashion and art practice founded in 2018 by Adeju Thompson. The label transforms heritage into new stories that question what is and encourage one to imagine what could be through clothing, accessories, and other mediums.
Rooted in the lore of Yoruba tradition, Lagos Space Programme deconstructs and reconstructs this aesthetic into pieces that smartly undermine convention, invite experimentation, and exhibit both the craftsmanship from this singular place and styles that go beyond any one place.
Founded to encourage exploration and reimagination, the label creates space for others to actively redefine themselves and their own futures through product. To question current convention, value alternate narratives, and push boundaries, explicit or implicit, in the way they so choose.
Genderless in its design.
Intentional in its practice.
Lagos Space Programme honors the past to create future culture.
Born and raised in Lagos, Adeju came back to Lagos after studying fashion in the United Kingdom in 2013, designing multiple capsule collections before founding the label in 2018. Guided by the traditional practices of Yoruba culture, non-binary concepts, and afrofuturism, Adeju uses the label to center African craftsmanship, reimagine fashion convention, and create new global narratives.
This has led to Adeju and Lagos Space Programme being recognized internationally–from being included in the Vogue 100 and Business of Fashion 500, to being shortlisted for the 2021 LVMH Prize for Young Designers and winning the 2023 International Woolmark Prize. Select pieces from Lagos Space Programme have also been featured in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City.
Through Lagos Space Programme and his creative process, Adeju continues to push boundaries and shift broader thinking by being grounded in his roots, while deliberately divining new futures.
